2016 – Performative intervention
20 min, two microphones, six amplifiers, video synth, two computers
Description
Presented at Texturing Space in Connecting Spaces, Hong Kong, China on 13./14.04.2016
Ernesto Coba-Antequera, Jonathan Ospina and I have discussed the ever decreasing chirping of birds in Hong Kong, which we heard about in stories from the elderly in the city.
In 軟禁 (English: imprisonment) Ernesto and I interrogated random people on the street with the sentence: Can you tell us in a minute why there are so many canaries in cages in Hong Kong? We recorded their answers and played them in loop in the room.
Jonathan played the loops in a track with birds chirping through the distributed amplifiers in the room. The sound goes then through a video synth, which is projected against a disco ball that evoked the lighting situation of a cage.
