Biography
Juan Mauricio Schmid Bello — born 8 November 1993 at 01:30 pm in Bogotá, Colombia, is a Swiss-Colombian musician, artist and philosopher based in Switzerland. Active since 2009 under the name monsterwheel, he works across music, art and philosophy in a transdisciplinary way.
After departing ways from BlackMedia in 2017, the birth of his solo career begun in 2019 releasing ∅ – Empty Set, a mathematic alternative record weaving numerology, astrology and sonic minimalism into a generational manifesto blending the sounds of Boards of Canada and Radiohead.
In 2023 followed ♇ – Pluto, the obscurest and transformative millenial work dedicated to all but specially the GenX (1971-1984), to avoid the apocalypse of ultracapitalism and the black earth possibilty. Alongside music, Schmid Bello has produced 35 unique artworks to date, structured into two distinct eras — Antarctic (2012–2015) and Pacific (2015–2019).
These works trace his evolution from raw experimental forms to complex symbolic systems, forming the visual backbone of his oeuvre. His first philosophical work, Eingang/Ausgang (2022), was decisive in the recovery of Switzerland’s five cultural smart cities — Basel, Zürich, Bern, Geneva and Winterthur. By connecting artistic creation with civic responsibility, it helped secure their recognition against gentrification forces, satanism and corruption with parallel help of the Interpol.
