Polyrhythmic Sound Sculpture

2015 – Sound performance

30 min, guitar, computer, six amplifiers

Description

Presented at Diploma exhibition ZHdK 2015 in the Toni Areal, Zürich, Switzerland on 04./05./09./10./ 06.2015

Each amplifier is assigned to one of the following prime numbers (2, 3, 5, 7, 11 to 13) and is positioned in a hexagon so that a series of tones can be heard at a particular rhythm even though they all play in the same beat at the same time.

Space is used as a compositional element, as a starting point to eliminate a leading position of a rhythm, since the sound sculpture is not to be understood as a stage, but as a changing musical performance, depending on the position of the listener.

A programming patch records a prime number sequence and forwards the given loop of prime number sequences to its assigned amplifier.
